VALLE DEI CAVALIERI is a community social cooperative founded in the Village of Succiso 1000 meters above sea level in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines in the province of Reggio Emilia in the year 1991. Succiso is one of the main gates of the Tuscan- Emilian Apennines National Park, and the cooperative manages the related Visitor Center. 

The main activity is agritourism, the structure has 11 rooms all with bathrooms and a small wellness center, an excellent restaurant, a bar and a shop with its own products and the typical products of the Park. The agricultural farm is dedicated to sheep breeding and produces “Pecorino dell ‘Alto Appennino Reggiano” in their cheese factory. The company offers educational activities for schools and families in collaboration with the National Park and other associations.  The cooperative has a multi-purpose sports center, rents electric bikes, snowshoes, trekking equipment and cross-country skis. 

Since 2007 it has also started sustainable tourism activities, focusing on meeting between potential tourists in the area, the community, and the surrounding environment. In 2018, it participated in the 14th UNWTO AWARDS for Excellence and Innovation in Tourism and won the second prize.

With the First Mile project, they decided to test solutions to improve sustainability in the following areas:

    • Promotion of local food
    • Reduction of single-use plastic
