Rifugio di Mare (Il Quinto Elemento Soc. Coop.) 🇮🇹

 

On an imposing limestone cliff, within a natural park, there is a museum area (MAPS) and the Rifugio di Mare, a guesthouse with bar and restaurant, created following the conservative restoration of a disused military battery. Sleeping here and waking up surrounded by nature is an unforgettable emotion.

Travel with Ila 🇮🇹

 

Ilaria is a tour guide, travel designer, and travel writer passionate about responsible tourism, outdoor life, and authentic experiences. As a travel designer and tour guide, she specializes in organizing experiential and sustainable trips for small groups in the Azores, Portugal, and other countries where she has spent extended periods living. She arranges private guided tours, promotes stays in family-run accommodations, boutique hotels, and eco-friendly destinations, and prioritizes walking and cycling journeys. Through her blog “Travel with Ila” and collaborations with international travel magazines, she shares her experiences and reflections. 

She is the author of a guidebook dedicated to the Azores and is currently working on two new books recounting personal travel stories, including adventures like climbing Kilimanjaro and solo travels in Latin America. She is excited to present and publish “The Responsible Traveler’s Handbook” with the support of the First Mile project.

Valle Dei Cavalieri 🇮🇹

 

VALLE DEI CAVALIERI is a community social cooperative founded in the Village of Succiso 1000 meters above sea level in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines in the province of Reggio Emilia in the year 1991. Succiso is one of the main gates of the Tuscan- Emilian Apennines National Park, and the cooperative manages the related Visitor Center. 

The main activity is agritourism, the structure has 11 rooms all with bathrooms and a small wellness centre, an excellent restaurant, a bar and a shop with its own products and the typical products of the Park. The agricultural farm is dedicated to sheep breeding and produces “Pecorino dell ‘Alto Appennino Reggiano” in their cheese factory. The company offers educational activities for schools and families in collaboration with the National Park and other associations.  The cooperative has a multi-purpose sports center, rents electric bikes, snowshoes, trekking equipment and cross-country skis. 

Since 2007 it has also started sustainable tourism activities, focusing on meeting between potential tourists in the area, the community, and the surrounding environment. In 2018, it participated in the 14th UNWTO AWARDS for Excellence and Innovation in Tourism and won the second prize.

Snowhotel Kirkenes 🇳🇴

 

Snow is a gift from the sky. Cold, still, pure and beautiful. Welcome to the world of Snowhotel Kirkenes. A world where you sleep in snow, walk on snow and can drive a snowmobile or a dogsled on snow. They even serve snow in their restaurant.

Snowhotel Kirkenes is situated 8 km outside Kirkenes in the secluded wilds of Northern Norway. Since 2006, they have dedicated their lives to show guests the true sense of arctic wilderness. Here, 160 huskies excitedly await their arrival. Reindeer graze behind unique chalets. At the bottom of the fjord, the giant king crabs dwell. When the northern lights dance, they illuminate the snowy surroundings with their vibrant green and yellow hues. However, none of these natural wonders would matter, without their most important asset – their staff, which are ready to give the best arctic adventure.
